FMP Evaluation

Throughout my FMP I have found another interest which I didn’t think I had. I found myself enjoying commercially driven briefs aswell as the branding one. The first brief I took on was the Cardiff Marathon. I quiet enjoyed this as I had an idea in my head which I wanted to go with, but when I found this didn’t work aswell I was a bit gutted to be honest, but I suppose its about which is the best and what works best. The Cardiff marathon brief, I extended into a promotional design where I designed things which I haven’t designed before. This project has definitely been an eye opener for me as its made me see things in a different context, and after crit feedback it opened up a new opportunity for me. I do however feel, my production skills could have been better on this brief.

The HG Wells brief was a good brief for me aswell. I learnt from crit feedbacks that not everyone is going to like the design, but others might do. I’m really glad I stuck to my ground and went with my design even though some people said my design was too simple. Overall, this brief turned out to be Ok. I feel a could have done better on this by extending this even more into the shop displays etc.

The bodyshop was another quick idea which came into my head which turned out to be quiet an enjoyable brief. Having an interest in promotional design, this gave me the opportunity to design things which interest me. Taking my idea of the cheeky strapline onto print based promo material really gave me the chance to show how I could apply my design onto other print based material.

The 10 things brief was a quick brief. I had originally seen this before Christmas and I really wanted to have a go at it. I chose my theme and I just went with it. I did some research into the area and created, what I think is quiet a simple publication which works well with the little simple vectors. The stock I printed on also brought out my design and when photographed in context with the shot glasses and game bits it looked really nice. If I had more time I would have definitely extended this brief and made my own game. I might consider doing something like this for my portfolio.

My weaknesses would probably have been putting off doing things because I thought I didn’t have enough time. In the future, when im working, I WILL propose everything which I think my design will work ok. After doing work experience at Grass Roots they really gave me an insight on what deadline times are on certain projects and sometime they’re even just half a day! This process has taught me to work quicker, make decisions and just do it!
